If you have a kid who asks about the things flying around at dusk this time of year, Saturday has an answer, and you don't need a trailhead for it.
Metroparks Toledo is bringing "Batty about Bats!" to the Main Library of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, downtown, on Saturday, Oct 17, at 11:00 AM. It is free. The 419TOL calendar lists it as a family and kids program.
There is a second chance midweek. The same program runs Wednesday, Oct 21, at 4:00 PM at the West Toledo Branch Library, also free.
The park district published a post called "Bats on the Move" on Sept 30, which fits the season. I haven't got the details of what the sessions cover, so check the Metroparks post and the calendar listings before you go for anything beyond the time and place.
A program that comes to a library instead of asking you to drive out to a park is an easy first step. Go Saturday, then pick a Metropark for the weekend after.
