Toledo Summers Hit Different
The case for spending your warm months in the 419.

There is a stretch of the year when Toledo stops being a place you drive through and becomes a place you do not want to leave. It starts when the patios open and the Mud Hens come home, and it does not really let up until the last festival of the fall.
The thing people miss about this city is how much it shows up for itself. A summer weekend here is rarely a question of whether something is happening. It is a question of which thing to pick. Riverfront concerts downtown. A farmers market on Saturday morning. Thousands of Jeeps rolling through the streets in August like the city built a holiday out of its own history, because it did.
If you are new here, start simple. Walk into the Toledo Museum of Art on a slow afternoon, because it is free and it is genuinely great. Find a patio in the Warehouse District. Get to a ballgame. Let the city introduce itself.
And if you have lived here your whole life, this is the reminder. The summer you keep meaning to have is already happening a few blocks away. Go know your own town a little better than you did yesterday.
