TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - With evictions and homelessness on the rise in our area, advocates say the unhoused community needs even more support. This weekend, an annual tradition is taking to downtown Toledo to help. From haircuts to health care, to help finding housing, Tent City is a community working for the unhoused. “It changed my life,” said Stanley Smith, a former client of Tent City. “It let me know there are people out there that care.” In 2016, Smith was experiencing homelessness. He went to the annual Tent City event for help. “I was a single dad, under-resourced,” Smith said.
