BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (WTVG) - The Carter House, located on North Church Street for nearly 150 years, was called “an ornament to the city” in the late 1870s when its first family lived there. The home was built by Norton Reed, a prominent businessman, and his family. Early owners Wood County District Public Library historian Marnie Pratt said Reed financed multiple projects, including Bowling Green’s first all-brick business block. Reed also served on city council. “After Norton Reed’s wife died, he sold it to Benjamin James. And Benjamin James was an attorney in town,” Pratt said.
