Gone Fishin': Walleye Shuttle Is Back For 2026

TARTA welcomes another great Toledo Walleye hockey season with the Walleye Shuttle , which offers a direct trip to and from every Saturday home game. The Walleye Shuttle delivers a $3 round-trip ride from five area park-and-ride locations for 13 regular season games, beginning with Opening Night, November 7 against the Fort Wayne Komets. TARTA Board Receives New Trustees From Ottawa Hills, Sylvania Township

TARTA is excited to welcome two new appointees to its Board of Trustees : Village of Ottawa Hills representative Dana Dunbar and Sylvania Township representative Ben Malczewski . Dana Dunbar is the Co-Owner and Chief Financial Officer of American Frame in Maumee, where she has been part of the team for 38 years. She was a member of the Ottawa Hills Village Council for eight years and also served as a trustee for Lake Erie West Regional Council for six years and President of the Endowment Board at Hope Lutheran Church in Toledo. She is a graduate of both Indiana University (BA) and the University of Toledo (MBA, Finance). “Efficient, reliable public transportation is so important to the well-being of a community, and I am grateful for this opportunity to help steer TARTA as it builds on our mobility system,” said Dunbar. “As an organization funded by the public, it’s so important that it…

Grant Paves Way For New, Updated Bus Shelters

New and updated shelters will greet passengers at many bus stops in the TARTA system in the next few months, thanks in part to a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Workforce Mobility Program. The state announced a $1.36 million grant to TARTA for 27 new bus-stop shelters and the renovation of 28 existing shelters. The award was part of $13.5 million in funds distributed to support transportation to rural and urban work centers through 19 of the state’s transit authorities. Locations for new and refurbished shelters will be determined in the next few weeks. LITE Funds In Action

Construction continues on currently on Edgevale Road in Ottawa Hills, one of several projects in the area partially paid for by Local Investment in Transit Enhancements (LITE) funds. A set amount of money from the sales tax levy funding TARTA goes directly to communities for use on projects designed to improve the commute for motorists, pedestrians and public transit users alike. TARTA's Keriko and Cherry and Dayton RTA's Reynolds Take Top Prizes At Bus Roadeo

TARTA’s team of fixed route and paratransit operators show their skill every day on the roads of northwest Ohio, and had another chance to do so in September at TARTA’s Bus Roadeo competition . TARTA brought back its Bus Roadeo contest – a community event for team members and their families that includes food trucks, family activities and dancing – last year after an 18-year hiatus. TARTA fixed route and TARTA Move paratransit operators competed for prizes and a spot in international competitions next year, and TARTA also welcomed three fixed route operators from Dayton RTA’s competition. TARTA’s David Keriko and RTA’s Andrew Reynolds earned first place finishes and qualified for the APTA International Bus Roadeo April 16-20, 2027 in Seattle. TARTA Rolls Out ATU-Endorsed Apprenticeship Program

TARTA took the next step in its investment in its team and training for its operators with the unveiling in late September of an operator apprenticeship program endorsed by the International Amalgamated Transit Union . Fixed route operators who graduated last month are the first to will be the first class in this new program - the 10th ATU-endorsed apprenticeship program in the U.S. and the first in Ohio. ATU apprenticeship programs are designed to go beyond standard onboarding programs, with curriculum that includes paid training for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), peer mentorship, certifications and an enhanced curriculum covering safety and de-escalation tactics. New TARTA operators undergo 300 hours of instruction time, split between classroom training and road training.
